Sandringham Golf Course

The Club also runs a mid-week competition spanning all days except Saturday. In addition to the regular stroke, par and stableford events there are a number of major events each year, and an annual Charity Day event in September. The facility will feature a new public 30-bay driving range with target greens, the redevelopment of the existing 18-hole golf course, a public café and the National High Performance Centre, which will help shape the next generation of golf heroes. Sandringham’s Golf Driving Range is situated amongst Melbourne’s famous sandbelt golf courses, in the heart of the Bayside area in Melbourne. While using the site, you must not violate any applicable laws and regulations.
Royal Melbourne's two current courses are known as the 'West' and 'East' courses. The West course was designed under the strict standards of famous course architect Dr. Alister MacKenzie. He visited the eventual site, located on the renowned Melbourne Sandbelt, south of the city, in 1926. The actual building of the West course was overseen by the famed Australian par 3 golf course near me golfer Alex Russell, as well as the head greenkeeper Mick Morcom; it was completed for play in 1931, and required much clearing of forested land. The East course was designed by Alex Russell, and was completed in 1932. Its two courses are each ranked amongst the best in the world by many international golf course ranking bodies and publications.

In 2007, Golf Digest magazine ranked Royal Melbourne as the sixth best course in the world outside the United States, behind The Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland. Both courses are known for their intricate bunkering, tough but fair challenge, variety of shotmaking, and exceptionally fast and true greens. The course is quite compact with a raised edge around the border of each hole to keep the ball on the course and there are stones outside the edging.
Australian golf will find a new home in the heart of Melbourne’s Sandbelt with a new state-of-the-art facility to be built. Creating the new breed of golfer is something I take a real pride in and my lessons and relationships I have with the KIDS reflects in their golfing improvement. “It’s fantastic to see those in the sport rally behind such a great project and we’re delighted that it can take place in the heartland of Melbourne golf,” Spargo said. Stephen Spargo, president of Golf Victoria which is the project principal, was excited about the centre’s potential to be a nationally unifying force for the golf community.

Whilst a shorter course we have taken inspiration from its more famous neighbours and have built a set of greens and bunkers which we hope challenge a range of golfers and give the public a taste of what sandbelt golf is all about.

Redevelopment of the Sandringham Golf Links commenced in May 2019.
